Spaced repetition system (SRS)

Click on the “brain” icon to access the Spaced Repetition System (SRS). This is a well-known system for improving information memorization. It asks for a recall of words, while spacing out this recall. The longer the successful recall, the more effective the memorization. It is considered that after 30 days, the learner will no longer forget the word.

On Octopus T2L, the SRS is classic but incredibly simple to use. All the words you click on in the texts are added to your virtual notebook. Better still, the word is recalled along with the sentence containing it. Indeed, it's very important to always learn words in context, so as to fully assimilate the nuances between the different meanings.

When recalling, you have three choices:

1. If you don't remember the meaning of the word, click on it to get its definition;

2. If you do remember the meaning of the word, you press the button with a simple tick ;

3. If you can understand not just the word, but the whole sentence, then you click on the button with the double tick.

The last option speeds up your revision considerably, as all the words in the sentence are then noted as having been seen.

Note: This system is by no means compulsory. You can learn without ever using it. In my opinion, it's much better than vocabulary lists, but it's also very off-putting. Never force yourself to use tools or content you don't like.
